Downtown & SoDA
The heart of Abilene is downtown, and so are many cultural, entertainment and fine dining experiences. The area south of the railroad tracks is known as SoDA (South Downtown Abilene), and it’s brimming with special events, wine, brews and more.

Bring the kids to Abilene for hands-on fun! Feed giraffes at the Abilene Zoo, explore museums and create art. Find all the Storybook Capital book characters downtown, and see Western characters brought to life at Frontier Texas!
Girls weekend
Reserve one of many charming guest houses in Abilene and start planning your weekend getaway with friends. Spend the days shopping, eating and exploring. Visit one of Abilene’s spas for nails, massage therapy and a facial. In the evening, dress up for cocktails and fun at hot downtown night spots. Western fun
Enjoy an authentic Texas experience in Abilene! Watch a rodeo at the Taylor County Expo Center. Eat chuck wagon cooking at Perini Ranch Steakhouse. Walk through the ruins of 1850s Fort Phantom Hill and meet real-life frontier legends at the Frontier Texas! museum, which features talking holograms and famous artifacts. Don’t walk out of town without a pair of James Leddy boots or a custom-made cowboy hat from 5D Hats and Leather.
Outdoors
If the great outdoors is your favorite place to be, Abilene offers a lot of activities to keep you busy. Roam the ruins of Fort Phantom Hill and boat and fish at Lake Fort Phantom Hill. Hike, boat, fish and camp under the stars at Abilene State Park or stay in one of the seven yurts. A yurt is a bent wood-framed tent.
